Curly Ruth notches impressive win at Kentucky Downs
08 Sep 2021
At Kentucky Downs, horses either love the unique course or hate it. Curly Ruth clearly falls into the first category. Dismissed at odds of 10-1, She moved up to take the lead in a sprightly 46.2 half mile, held steady when challenged at the top of the stretch and battled gamely to prevail by half a length over Empress Eleanor and Jezebel's Kitten. Time for the mile was a solid 1:35.4.
The best thing about Kentucky Downs' fair meet is the purses, especially ofr Kentucky bred competitors. The purse for the allowance race was $156,000, higher than some graded stakes in California. The winner's share was $93,960, and as they say, "That ain't hay."
Curly Ruth continues to improve now with every race. By top stallion Curlin, out of multiple graded stakes winner Rutherienne, she has every chance to develop into a top horse in her future career. We are optimistic she will be competitive for black type soon.
