Frostmourne cruises to victory in Makers' prep

17 Mar 2018

Away since November, Frostmourne returned to the races in a condition allowance race on March 16 at Gulfstream, winning easily in preparation for a chance at the Makers 46 Mile (Grade 1) at Keeneland on April 13.  Bumped hard at the break, Frostmourne was taken in hand by jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. and stalked a leisurely pace carved by Conquest Enforcer.

After splits of 48.4 and 1.12.0, Frostmourne angled out entering the stretch, tackling and passing the leader in the final 1/16 to win by one length in 1.34.4 (so he ran the finalk quarter mile in 22.2- very solid).

Frostmourne's next start will come in the Makers 46 Mile at Keeneland.  This is the same race won by his brother, Karelian, in 2010.  He is likely to face the top turf milers in the country in that race.
