Green Lantern Stables travels to Europe
09 Dec 2014
Green Lantern Stables traveled to Newmarket, England for the December sale of breeding stock. An exhaustive search including inspection of conformation, race record and pedigree resulted in a handful of serious prospects. When the dust settled, we came away with three nice mares that we feel will add substantially to our operation.
The first mare purchased was Gracia Directa. A six year old, she raced in the UK and Germany where she won a listed stake as well as the Grade 3 Summer Stakes at York. She also placed in three additional Graded stakes and an additional listed stake. She finished with a record of 21-5-9.
A daughter of Kyllachy, her mother was also a listed stakes winner in Germany. She is booked to Dutch Art who stands at Cheveley Park Stud in Newmarket.
The second purchase was Athenian, a hard-knocking favorite from the barn of Sir Mark Prescott. She both won and placed in listed stakes in Germany and achieved a Timeform rating of 97. Her career record was 19-7-6 and she was primarily a sprinter. Her sire is Acclamation and she is out of Ziria, a multiple graded stakes winner in France by Danehill Dancer. She was described by Sir Mark as "bomb proof" because of her calm diposition. She is booked to Oasis Dream.
Finally, we were able to purchase Souviens Toi, a daughter of Dalakhani who won a listed stake and placed in three others. She was also fourth in two Grade 3 stakes. Her dam was a listed stakes winner and graded stakes placed in the USA. She is carrying a foal by Oasis Dream on an early cover and has been booked to Dansili.
All three mares are staying at New England Stud in Newmarket. Current plans are to breed them next season and transfer them back to the United States. Perhaps these will be among the first foals to arrive on Green Lantern Farm in 2016...
